Default 1998 GSX Limited Starter Fluid

Hi Guys,

I've got a 1998 GSX Limited which hadn't been started in about 9 months until a week ago. A week ago when I tried to start it, it wouldn't fire up which is typical for whenever I haven't used it for that long. However, it normally eventually starts but this time it didn't and instead of taking it for another costly service to clean out the carbs and what not, I decided to go and buy some starting fluid. Initially, the starting fluid didn't do anything when I sprayed it into the air intake but I continued use it (probably more than I should have) and it would fire into life for a second or so, and eventually I got the engine to continue running so that it was burning fuel and not just starter fluid. Just wondering if I could have caused myself some engine damage in this process?? On the starter fluid bottle and the website, it said it's suitable for all two-stroke and four-stroke engines and that it contains only 25% ethene.

What do you guys think...

Thanks

If it has upper cylinder lubricant it will be fine. I had a Yamaha GP1200 once that was a starter fluid queen and no damage occurred. Upper cylinder lubricant is the key.
