Will it crank with the plugs out? If it won't, either the motor is locked up or the starter is dead. If the won't crank, you can't test spark. If the motor won't turn the fuel pump will get the vacuum impulse which moves the diaphragm in the pump to move fuel. Figure out the issue of it not cranking first, then troubleshoot the lack of spark and fuel. Most likely when you get it to crank everything else will work too. It's just not likely both the fuel and ignition systems would fail at the same time.

Hey, all I can hear is a humming noise when trying to start it, I bought the ski off a good mate and we use to take it all the time. It has been sitting for over a year in the shed now. So you think starter motor or engine is locked up?? Will the engine lock up if it's been sitting there for over a year knowing the last time we took it out it was working? Thanks Alex

I took the plugs out and tried again, still the same result. It's sounding like the starter motor isn't connected, it's making a hum/grind noise, but it's not cranking aghrrr
Thanks Alex

You can pull the starter out and bench test it. Just take some jumper leads, connect the ground to the mounting ear, gently touch the positive lead to the terminal. When you make contacy the starter should turn at a high rate of speed. only do short bursts as the starter will overheat. If the starter does nothing, or grinds it's shot.

Hey no problem! I'm glad thats all it was! Starters are pretty cheap so you should be good to go.
