Default 97 Seadoo GTX possible melted counterbalances????

I would be so grateful if someone could tell me what has happened to my 97 Seadoo GTX 800.
It was out on the river when it appeared to run out of fuel. It was switched over to the reserve tank restarted and it continued running for a short time before once again stalling. After this the motor would crank over but would no longer start. On examination after leaving the water a part of the housing on the motor (possibly the counterbalance?) had a hole in it as thought it was melted (see photos).

Is this a common problem? Does anybody know what this could be? Is this the problem or is it just a coincidence?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Default

Thats called a rave valve, I believe it controls/limits the flow of exhaust gas exiting the cylinder. Also controls peak power output.

Default maybe the seals failed on that rave valve?

Looks like the seals failed letting hot exhaust and oil into the valve causing the melt down. You can find used valves on ebay. I would replace it with a good used one first and test the ski out. If it does it again then something besides the seals is creating the issue. Have you ever had them out and cleaned the carbon deposits off of them? It may have got stuck and the exhaust burned it up.
