Default 2012 GTR 215 or 2011 RXT 260?

Hey guys. I'm new here. I currently have a 2000 GTX 951cc 2 stroke ski and it's been a great ski with no problems (knock on wood). I made the mistake of riding a friends new supercharged 4 stroke ski and now I'm hooked. There's a local dealership who has quite a few 2012 models on the lot. After researching for the last couple weeks I'm pretty convinced a 2012 GTR 215 is what I want. I can't afford a new RXT or RXP at 15k, but the 11k dollar GTR is doable. Anyways, I was at the dealer today and he showed me a 2011 RXT 260 they had left over from last year. It's yellow and has never seen water. The price he gave me on that was almost exactly that of the new '12 GTR. I think I'd like the RXT better, but I've read a LOT of stories about first ride problems with the 2011 models and the IBR units going out and check engine lights within the first hour and it has me worried. I've searched and searched and can't really find anyone having issues with the new GTR's. Anyone have any input? I'm going up north 1 week from today and I'd really love to be trailering a new ski up instead of my 2000. Thanks!

I would go for the 2011 RXT.

All I can say is that I put 28 hrs in my GTR in two months and it does everything I want it to do or expected it to do. I am also seeing more out on the water.

The one thing I wish for is cruise control but that's not a deal breaker. Remember when it's time to sell no matter what hours are on it you are dealing with a 11 to a 12

I am sure the 260 is a hoot to ride and it will probably drink more gas also

Man, just when I thought my mind was set on the 260 now I'm wondering if the GTR would be a better choice. I will say that I thought for sure that they had cruise control too, so that does kind of suck. We do some long rides and cruise control was one of the things I was looking forward to. Ugh this decision sucks! LOL

Why? The RXT is Sea-Doo's flagship.

How true. The 260 is a great ski. Sometimes flagships aren't the best it is all what you want from something. If you go on long trips I would get a ski that has cruise period! I am sure if your not flogging it around you can get decent gas usage. I thing the gtr has more cu in space also-
Even though I LOVE my gtr I would get the 260 since it has cruise and a board step. I do like the profile looks of the gtr better.

Thank you guys for the replies! I went back today and talked to the dealer some more. They are one of the larger dealerships around the area and said they have had some issues with the 2011 RXT 260 but nothing that isn't covered by warranty in most cases, and not one GTR has come back with an issue out of all they've sold so far this year. Though we talked numbers and the better deal ended up being the GTR by far, so I went that route. I hope I am not disappointed by it, as it is a lot of money to spend...but coming from a 2000 GTX I can't see being too upset. Going to read the manual front to back and hopefully get it in the water later this week. Thanks for the advice and wish me luck!

Manitou Beach, MI right on Devil's Lake, and 35 mins from Lake Erie.

I love my GTR 215 and on smooth water you won't find better bang for the buck... however, the S3 hull is better in chop, hands down. Your mention of Lake Erie... scary on a GTI hull??? I don't know Devil's Lake, but I do a lot of riding in Gaylord, MI on Otsego Lake and the GTR is a dream. I am looking at adding the Cruise/Ski/Slow mode module to my GTR this winter. So you could possibly get what you're after for a mere $205 add-on. I can't tell you for sure as this will be my Christmas/Winter project this year.
