» 2008 Sea-Doo GTX Limited
Apr 14, 2008 - 2:03 PM - by administrator

With its GTX Limited, Sea-Doo has decided to offer as much luxury and performance as possible into a three-passenger cruiser.

It is hoped that consumers will crave every last feature the unit has to offer, and there is plenty. Luxury, however, costs—the GTX Limited is priced at US$13,599, highest of any PWC from the major manufacturers.

"Within the luxury and performance line, the GTX Limited is the upper echelon," BRP district sales manager Scott MacWilliam told PersonalWatercraft.com. "It’s the perfect blend of luxury, style and performance."

Equipped with a 215-horsepwer, turbocharged, intercooled, Rotax 4-TEC engine, Sea-Doo claims the unit is very efficient and produces low emissions and little noise.

» 2008 Honda F-15X
Apr 14, 2008 - 2:02 PM - by administrator

For the first time since entering the personal watercraft market in 2002, Honda has built a brand new vehicle from stem to stern—the F-15X.

With a new, more powerful engine and a longer hull, the F-15X is Honda’s answer to the recent PWC innovations from Sea-Doo, Kawasaki and Yamaha.

The F-15X is powered by a new 16-valve 1,470cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is a big jump from the 1,235cc unit powering the F-12 series. Despite its power, Honda says the efficient, low-emissions 4-stroke design burns up less fuel than a comparable 2-stroke.

Maximum combustion efficiency and power is provided by high-pressure programmed fuel injection. Fuel is delivered through four laser-drilled holes in each of the four injector nozzles.

» 2008 Yamaha FX Cruiser HO
Apr 14, 2008 - 1:59 PM - by administrator

Yamaha has redesigned its FX Cruiser HO for 2008 with a brand new hull and deck made with nanotechnology.

The only personal watercraft manufacturer using nanotechnology, Yamaha says the innovative and award-winning NanoExcel provides a 25% reduction in weight in the hull, deck and liner.

With the lighter components, riders will find improvements in performance and handling, acceleration, top speed and power-to-weight ratio, according to the company.

"This process really allows us to have a material that is more dense, stronger and cuts the weight significantly," Yamaha's marine product manager Jean-Francois Rioux told PersonalWatercraft.com. "By bringing a lighter weight to the machine, we're changing the whole characteristic and handling of the unit."

» What's new for 2008
Apr 14, 2008 - 1:58 PM - by administrator

Like any industry, the personal watercraft business faces a good deal of competition, as OEMs try to get consumers to part with their hard-earned dollars.

One trend has some watersports enthusiasts trading down from their larger pleasurecraft, and into the smaller and more economical PWCs.

So it was somewhat fitting that at the International Boat Show in Toronto in January, 2008 offerings from PWC makers such as Sea-Doo, Yamaha and Honda were dwarfed by the competition. It was only in size, mind you, as mammoth yachts, cruiser and fishing boats commanded most of the real estate at the Direct Energy Centre.

But what they may have lacked in floor space, personal watercraft models from these companies are increasingly appealing to enthusiasts, and appearing on more and more waterways.
