Question 96 Seadoo Xp Electrical Box problem

Just picked up the jetski and had to replace a fuse. The top popped off of the electrical box easily by pushing two clips on opposite sides of the box. However, there is no way that the top wants to press down enough to lock back into place. Removed the gasket and the top locked down just fine, but with a bunch of play. We have tried pushing the gasket deeper into the lid and have used enough force to almost break the box, no luck. I would suspect the gasket itself, but we had the starter replaced a few weeks ago and the tech had to have opened the box then. Anyone have any ideas? The lid is actually keeping the ski out of the water. Now how frustrating is that? Thanks in advance for any help.
