Default about to buy seadoo gtx 1996 and need advices

Hello,

I am new here.

I have been renting jetski for many season and i think it is time to buy a jetski. I saw a seadoo gtx 1996 on craigslist and i am interested. The owner said he left it in his garage for over two years. the engine sometime run sometime doesnot run. He offers it for $700. i was thinking of doing the work on it by myself. I dont know much about jetski. I know a little about car engine and stuff. i was just wondering if the engine on seadoo is the same.

if i buy this jetski what do i need to do to make it run. Assuming that it is not running right now. If i have to rebuilt the engine and all, do you think it is expensive for the parts?
is there a diy guide that i can follow? is it easy to fix this? Experts please give me some advices and noobs are welcomes too.

thank you guys

P.S. sorry for english grammar

It will be similar to a car engine with the exception of being 2-stroke, and likely 2 cylinder. Given that it has been sitting, at minimum the spark plugs and possibly wires will need changing.
I wouldn't buy it though, if its having problems now it is likely that it will just end up being a money pit, especially if you have to do a rebuild.

thank you for ur reply. I decided to get a running jetski. I bought a gtx 2000 for $2300 including trailer. this looks better, engine runs, nothing wrong with it. I estimated the cost to fix the other jetski and it came out about $500 for parts plus my time. I was thinking of buying it but then decided to not. something else might be wrong with it and it would cost more money. thus, i bought the gtx 2000. I took it out to the ocean 3x already and nothing wrong with it.. runs great...

advices for others: do not buy used jetski that is not running because it will cost more in the long run to fix it. but if u have the time then go for it.
