1995 gts pump problem

I have a 1995 GTS with the single carb white 580/587 in it. The previous owner said that it normally went 42ish mph for them. I was only able to get it up to 32mph with severe cavitation. I pulled the pump and saw that the wear ring had excessive clearance between the impeller. i was torn whether I was going to get the impeller refurbished of not but then I noticed some of the vanes were busted behind the impeller. Is this a big deal?

You can, but you can also find good ussd pumps on ebay. Just find out what others it fits and include that in the search.

Check with impros. They might be able to get you a pump and set it up with a new impeller so all you will have to do is bolt it in.

Normally they are either stainless steel or a composit material. You need to replace it with the same material that is already there. If the new ring is not the same od it qill either not fit or put the impeller in a bind where is wrinkles. You might be able to find a pump with a composit ring that will fit yours. Those rings are much easier to change.
