Default 95 GTX 657x engine carburetor question

We have a 95 GTX jetski in which we had to get a new engine (657x). We are installing it ourselves due to no one nearby available to do it for us. We have a question about the carburetor. When you mount the carburetor to the motor, is that also your timing? If not, how do you check to make sure it is lined up correctly? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. We are new to the forum, so if there is a thread already on this subject, please direct us to it.

Thanks,
Mgraham

the fuel timing is controlled with the rotary valve, and the spark timing is controlled by the flywheel key. you need a service manual to set the rotary valve and a degree wheel.
