2006 Seadoo RXT engine failure
Howdy all,
I was riding my "doo everything seemed fine, noticed loss of power, finally it shut down. I took it to the dealer, there sayin no compression on # 1 cylinder, and of course, wanto replace the engine. Is it normal for a properly maintained boat with 130 hours to fail like this?

Did you ever replace the ceramic thrust washers with stainless steel ones? Which wear out and break up then pass thru the engine intake and can cause big problems. If you didn't this could be the problem, at or about 100+- hrs these should be upgraded to stainless after 2006 Seadoo started using stainless steel from the factory. I would be surprised if you didn't know about this as this has been the subject of many threads. I personally have no trouble with all three of my supercharged Seadoos

One other thing is I was going to ask if you noticed a power loss then I scanned thru post again and saw that you did notice a substantial power loss. This is a clear indication of ceramic washer failure. The only other thing would be engine oil related. Anyways the problem is when noticing a power loss, shut it down and get towed home. Many people try to limp home and cook their motors
Better Yet to others that reads - replace Ceramic thrust washers before they fail 2006 and older.

RXP power loss fix
I have an 2009 RXP that I bought new and has just 50 hours on it now and was getting 70 mph with no problem. I noticed this year that I could only get 57 and the power out of a hole shot was not there anymore. I checked everything, cleaned the hull, etc. While I was feeling around the engine area making sure everything was connected and tight I noticed that the large rubber elbow hose connecting the SC to the intake had split on the backside and was sucking air. Couldn't see it based on where the split was. Can just guess what the dealer would have came up with and charged me for if I had let them 'guess' what the problem was? In any case, I replaced the hose and all is well. This little hose was $99! I bet they would have said I needed the SC rebuilt, found that it was only the hose and would have never told me. Call the cops, I was just robbed!
