Default HX Oil Lines and their purpose

I am looking for an explaination of the HX oil lines and where they go and what they do. The lubrication section of the shop manual is not very clear. I assume that the line with the filter is a line from the oil tank to the pump. Are there return lines? Does what looks like the check valve just plug into a line and not have a hose on the other end? There is a line that is not hooked on one end that sits in the bilge. Is that to keep the bilge dry? Any help would be appreciated since the shop manual doesn't help. Thanks!
