From what i've read on here they need to be replaced because they detrioate within and cause major problems with your engine. I will be replacing mine in the next couple of weeks.

I talked to a mechanic who confirmed that this week. Now I need to determine the size of ID of the lines and what to replace them with .... how much I need ......and where to get it. Looking under the hood I also notice that all the connections are crimped so I either need to get a crimper or a bunch of very small band clamps. Also my fuel gauges don't work but I have a fix for them so I may pull them out and fix them too before I finish.

After a lot of research on this site it's prob gonna be 1/4 in and you can get from your local auto parts store. It prob says on the hose the size but if not you could always cut off a section and take it up there. Just make sure you get the non fuel injection fuel hose from what I've read. Replace one at a time and replace all your clamps with the good ones and no zip ties. Im very new to all this as well but I've done a lot of reading and feel like its a job I can tackle if I take my time. There's a lot of info on here about the fuel lines. You also need to empty your fuel tank and clean it. Also clean or rebuild your carbs. Clean or replace fuel selector valve. Might as well do it all if your gonna replacing lines.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......it would be easier if I just had $10k or so to buy new sleds!!

I have also heard its a job you can do by changing out a line at a time though.

If you go tot he auto store I assume they will only have rubber lines but that's ok if it will work. Its probably not the cheapest way to buy them though because they often sell by the foot at a premium.

The grey tempo fuellines cause a reaction with the brass on the carb inlets. It turns to a greenish color and is sticky and gooey! That ends up in your micro filters that will cause a lean seizure in time. The filters are $$ so what i do is take them out and soak them in acetone over night and blow them out with compressed air. I would also take out the fuel bowl and clean that filter also. You will also find the fuel selector switch will have the same problems with the sticky greenish residue inside it and around the nipples.

I myself get rid of the fuel bowl, fuel selector and just run my main line right from reserve. That takes alot of problems out of the equation.
