94 xp won't run
Ok I bought this thing not running. Replaced starter, battery, rebuilt carbs, popoff is 20psi, replaced plugs, and all fuel lines, cleaned selector switch and strainer. I have spark and fuel to both carbs, but will only fire when I prime with some brake cleaner then revs to 3k and dies. I guess I could look at the timing? But it wouldn't fire on the brake cleaner if the timing was off right?

It may be your fuel pump. Try pouring a shot of fuel in each jug replace plugs and fire. The last resort is starting fluid in the jugs instead of gas.

Well, let me re-phrase the question. Cruisertom, Have you check the compression on your cylinders? If not, you may check that and let us know. As Outlaw said, it should be around 140 or so. That'll give us an indication whether or not you may have a internal problem.

When I bought it a month ago it had 130ish compression. It was thinking maybe I have washed the cylinders trying to start it so much, also I am charging the battery today to see if I have a slightly low voltage issue to the mpem due to starting so much. It is really all I can think of.

Recheck your carb lines and be sure they are hooked up correctly. Easy mistake I have made "once". It's not timing. It's fuel. Are you choking the carbs and is it drawing fuel out of the fuel filter?

choking the carbs? I have a primer, but it is dead not squirting fuel, I thought that it would start by priming it instead but try to hit the throttle and it dies.
Sometimes it seems to backfire slightly triing to start, did get it to rev up to 7k and it wanted to stay there so I shut it off. I didn't even have my hand on the throttle.

Which line is your primer connected? You may have an air leak in that circuit not allowing the pump to pull fuel into the carb.
But if it did race to 7k without any input to the throttle, that may indicate an air leak. Did you replace the carb/intake manafold gasket?

Yes I did replace the carb to intake gaskets, with some I made out of garlock. Maybe they are leaking? What about a crank seal? Looks like the front cover that covers the magneto isn't bolted down completely like someone has been in there. I should take a look when I get home.
