Forced to tow 97 seadoo XP w/o water block off.
Looking for some advice from an experienced Seadoo mechanic.
I recently purchased a twin pair of 97 Xp's. They were in mint condition and sold my worst xp to a buddy. I started the boats before purchasing but did not ride them.(my bad)
So I take a 10 day vacation with my new used PWC's and hit the lake.
One of the skis immediately surged like an electrical issue and the other one ran fine. I took the coil to a marine mechanic to have it checked and he said it was bad. I returned to camp and rode the other ski. It ended up with the same issue- surging power issue. I ordered two coils and a friend brought them to me.
After installing and not fixing the issue, I did some research and removed the carbs- you guessed it- green goo in the micro filters. I cleaned the filters and slapped the carbs back on and- Bitchin'! Ran like a gem until my son was on a long ride and the bike quit. I was in my boat taking photos with a full crew and we needed to get back to camp quickly. We killed the battery on the ski trying to start it and I had no water block off available so we slowly started heading back to camp with the ski in tow.
The nose of the ski was subbing, so a friend jumped on the ski to keep it stable. I punched the throttle and he thought he was riding a bull. I know this was a bad idea but I really had no other option at the time but to tow the ski quickly. As my passengers were on a time crunch and it would have taken too long to drag the ski slowly. I pulled it around 25-30 mph.
Once back at camp, I looked at the plugs- super fouled, no water in motor.
Wasn't sure about water in the pipe.
I pulled the carbs and looked again for crap in the filter. #2 clean, #1 dirty.
I think we adjusted the top end needles too rich after we checked for debris in the jets. We removed the plastic caps to check for obstructions and completely removed them to be certain of clarity.
I leaned the top end and installed new plugs. The ski started and off I went- for about 100 yards-unstable throttle, no top end and then it quit and i needed a tow in.
The motor is now making a whizzing/ grinding sound when cranking over
The #2 cylinder has 160# pressure but the #1 won't register squat.
Not sure what to do next.
Sorry for the long message but wanted to explain the best I could.
Thanks in advance for any help.
