Default Does Rotart Valve Make Ratcheting Sound when stripped?

Just got my hx dialed in after an addition of a factory pipe. Ran perfect for 3 hours two days ago then yesterday had it out for about 8 mins and it died. It would crank, impeller was moving but there was a bad ratcheting sound. Engine will turn but not fire. It sounds bad.

My first inclination was starter but then it wouldn't have died while underway if the starter was the issue.

Anyone know if it can be the rotary valve making this ratcheting noise? If it is should I just plan on a full rebuild or mod?
