Default Sea-Doo opinions

I posted a similar thread in the general discussion section but thought I might post in the Sea-Doo section. Wife and I are looking at buying 2 pwc's and would prefer to buy used, we are in our early 40's and would like to get the best value for our money. Please give your opinion on these models. 2009 Sea-Doo GTI SE 155HP with 21 hrs. and 2008 Sea-Doo Wake 155HP with 26 hrs. Please explai the wake model (is it removable) not familiar with this at all. Thanks for any info you may have

Very good choices, I have had only Seadoo jet skis and absolutely love them. The two skis you are looking at are rock solid 4-strokes that require very little maintenance. Mine are all supercharged and my 2006 RXT is modified pushing close to 300 hp. They have not failed to date with many hours. The Wake 155 is a great water sports toy. It has programable speeds and ballast tanks that you can fill with water for a bigger wake for wake boarding then empty when you are done electronically. Both skis will top out at over 60 mph. I am 54 years old and rip all the time on my skis. The RXT will do approx 75 mph; Look at the thread from golfman titled help me pick a ski. There are some good pics and info in that thread.

Lastly when you buy jet skis you are not only buying the ski, but the company who made it and the dealer who services it. Seadoo's dealer network is second to none IMO.

Enjoy your Seadoos. Austrian quality built Rotax engines, assembled in Canada. Bombardier is a huge company with many product lines.

Outlaw thank you for the input. Do you know if the ballast tanks on the back are removable? I mean we probally would not pull anyone very often and I was wondering if this would be something you would just install when you knew you were going to use it. The seller sent us alot of pictures and it looks like this takes up alot of room on the back of the ski. We are trying to schedule a day and time to test them. I'm just not familiar with the WAKE setup at all. Also any thoughts on what to look for when testing them. I have seen lost of post about having to replace, i think washers are something, does that pertain to these year models
Thanks again

Thumbs up

The washers you are reffering to are called thrust washers. They only pertain to the supercharged engines as they are in the supercharger. The older Seadoo superchargers came with ceramic thrust washers that could fail at 100 hours + or -. They could break apart and enter the engine causing breakdown. They were in pre-2008 models, the skis you are looking at don't have them. Then on the newer models for optimum performance they should be replaced every 100 hrs, but no risk of failure. As far as what to look for a sea trial is the only sure way to evaluate the ski for mechanical tests. Visual inspection of the engine bay for leaks, corrosion or signs of submersion i.e. water stains in the engine bay. The good thing about Seadoos is they have closed loop cooling. No other manufactuer can say that. What that means is that no sea water gets near the engines internals. However you should still flush out the exhaust with hose connector.

I have never used the Wake models, but I have towed the biggest tube made, the Airhead Storm upright three seater (114 " wide, a couch lol) with a driver and spotter on my GTX 215 using a bridle system hooked to the tie down loops to lower the angle of towing and not to stress the single hook below the back seat. Even my 54 year butt got on it. What a blast.

Also don't be mislead about having to use premium fuel. It is reccomended for optimum perforfance bit not mandatory. The ECU retards the timing to compensate for lower octane. Most marinas sell 89 octane which will do just fine.
