Default Just a 640 Monte Carlo

First post here, just thought Id share my story
Found this 95 Monte Carlo that wasnt running for cheap. It was actually a combo deal with a 96 Seadoo that was running. The Shark was in poor shape, they both were poorly taking care of. Once I got the shark home, I started troubleshooting and ended up finding this

A nice size hole burned through the piston! So I tore the whole motor down and found out that a jerry rigging mechanic did some magic on this ol girl. From what I found, he only changed out one piston before but mustve lost one of the pin clips and put some random in. Well of course it broke the clip, sent it to the top and created a hot spot but crazily never scored the jug!
After a couple bucks, the Shark is running like new. Just in time for winter of course! Haha. Now its time for some new fabric and possibly paint

I am also in the process of rebuilding a 640 monte carlo. This one belonged to a family member and was given to me because it stopped running. parts on their way now. I have ridden it many times before. It's a very forgiving ski. they also have a newer kawasaki 250 ultra, but the little tigershark is way more fun and burns way less fuel.

Welcome to the forum! Normally a hole in a piston means the cylinder went lean. Make sure the crank seals are good by spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid toward both ends of the motor where the seals are, if the motor's RPMs change from the spray the seals are bad. If left alone, another hole is in your future. To be safe I would change them anyway as the the ski is a few years old. Nice ski! To bad Cat stopped making them, they were, and still are good solid skis. Enjoy!

you might also wanna check your bearings while you are working on it. nothing like needle bearings going through an engine to ruin a nice weekend
