Default '97 motor into a '93

What would be involved in putting a 1997 motor into a 1993? The '97 motor is complete with bed plate and exhaust.

I know the "swap points" are '93 to '96 and '97 to '99 but I was wondering if it's at all possible. Looks like I can buy the already rebuilt '97 for less than it would cost to rebuild the '93.

Thanks,

Gerald

1993 Arctic Cat TigerShark hull. I may have a 1997 TigerShark engine available but if the swap would be too involved I'll look harder at a top end rebuild on the 1993 engine (hole in piston, partly disassembled by P.O. then left to sit so there's surface rust in the sleeve now).

What hulls are they? What engines are being swapped?

Didn't I just answer that? 1993 Tigershark hull. 1997 Tigershark motor. Is there other info needed? I'm new to PWC ownership.

Sharks have models just like cars. Toyota has Tundra, Shark has Monte Carlo etc... They came with 4 different engine sizes available.

So, if you have a Montego with 640 engine, th 97 640 will fit. You will simply have to change the coupling on the rear of the crank. I just put a 97 in a 95. The other thing is that you will need the tubes that go down into the gas tank, and they are inexpensive

All it has on it is "TigerShark" How does one identify the model? The hull number is ARJ00980 C393. I have the title and the last state registration paperwork but they all just say TigerShark

Cant help you there, but Im sure if you have a 640 engine ( 1 carb) then you should be fine. if it's a 770, I cant help you. I have 5 sharks and all 640s

Just looked, single carb. So, just the PTO coupler needs to be changed? I thought that's what prevented the later engines from swapping in, a different crank end diameter that wouldn't accept the earlier PTO coupler.

Wish I could look at two side-by-side before spending money on the motor I have lined up. yuck. ;-)
