the driveshaft threads into the coupler and the coupler threads onto the crank. you need a spanner wrench to hold the coupler and a wrench to unscrew the shaft

to remove the coupler from the crank, bring pto piston to Just before tdc and put a piece of rope into the plug hole to keep the engine from rotating.

correct, right tight, also put some tape over the ds threads before sliding it through the seal to prevent damage to the seal

only the 900s came with a balance shaft, and it is recommend to remove it at rebuild as it is only more cause for engine failure. your 1000 is correct not having one
stick another bearing on there with one seal and you will be good to go

your pto bearing set up should go,

washer / bearing / washer / bearing / spacer / o-ring spacer / seal
