Default Timing on 95 Tigershark 900

Is there a way to adjust timing on a 1995 Tigershark 900? In the service manual back in the trouble shooting it list "Ignition timing incorrect" as a possible reason for the engine to overheat. It remedy is to "Adjust ignition timing", but I can not find any place in the book that shows how to adjust the timing.

My problem is I burnt a hole in the center of the center piston. I guessing it was running lean. I plan on rebuilding all the carbs, seals, and of course the bad piston. I am just trying to eliminate all possibilities so I don't have to do this again. Also how concerned do I have to be with the hot metal affecting the crankshaft bearing when the center piston is the one with the hole.

Thank you for your help in advance
