Source for Starter Solenoid or alternate part that will work?
I'm having a very difficult time finding a replacement starter solenoid for my '95 Montego ski. Part number is MS5C 281-1 Hitachi 12V. Is there another solenoid that will work or can these be "rebuilt" @ a starter shop?? It looks like a very simple solenoid with the only issue perhaps being it's small size. the wires that make it work are supposed to show 3 - 4.5 Ohms resistance without power and under 12V power the terminals are supposed to show 0 Ohms resistance. The one I have clicks and will sometimes turn over the engine if you smack the outside of the solenoid case lightly with a wrench. I've tried a Honda one that's about the same size but though it "clicks" it doesn't get 0 Ohms across the terminals and won't run the starter.
