Default Pumps

New to the forum, but I at least tried to research the topic as much as possible. It's my understanding that the pump setup changed in '96, where the whole pump housing went from removable to built it? Before '96, were all the engines one size? I'm building a jet boat and hunting some old jets, but was hoping to find some bigger than off a 640. Or am I just a fool and two 640 jets powered by a honda 1.6 I4 get a 14-16' boat scooter-pootin?

Any feedback is welcomed at this point. This monster all began with wanting to put an old jet in a jon boat for the creeks around here and then I happened across a complete '94 daytona for cheap. From there it went to wanting reverse, a lake boat, a bigger engine and finally twin jets..

Not trying to be a smart-ass and not sure what "scooter-pootin" is but you do know that seadoo, yamaha and several other manufacturers make jet boats. Some of the 2-stroke ones can be had for very reasonable and probably more reliable than your thing you're trying to build.

"Scooter-pootin" just means doing a decent speed. And yes, I'm aware that there are existing jet boats.

Just bear with me. Considering I got that complete ski for $100, how easy it'd be to mount the jet and figuring I could get ahold of an old jon boat for another 100 or v-hull for maybe $200, I was just thinking that a home made jet boat would be possible for around $500. And keep in mind, the original plan was for a cheap jon for the local creeks and rivers, powered by a briggs..

This plan was kickin around in my head before people realized what complete jet setups were really worth. Now I realize that 2 complete jets w/ reverse off Ebay could easily run me 900-1100 with shipping and that's with a very good possibility they'd need to be rebuilt.

Anyone have anything useful to kick in here?
