Default Horrible maiden voyage

Hey guys I took the 1996 TS Daytona 770 that I have been working on for a while out to the Ohio river today. The good news , she started and ran great, and the launch was great. I immediately suspected it was sitting too low in the water so i beached it and removed seat only to find no water intrusion so I make a few gentle turns while still concerned it was too low in the water. Now bearing in mind the capacity is 370# i then get my son on it with me and immediately realize were in trouble . We got about 30 ft. out and attempted to slowly turn back and she capsized. I rerighted it and between me and my son we made it back to the shore. Now my son weighs 180# and I weigh 220 so that's 400# . I know that's slightly over the limit but not that much. What do you guy's think could weight one down that bad. I will tell you it had about 4" of water standing in the hull when i bought it. Could that have soaked into any floatation foam? I give up please help. Thanks

Why do you think it was sitting too low? And yes they are a very tippy ski, so having anywhere close (or over) the weight limit is bad news.

Yeah I guess I've learned a valuable lesson , but thank God not at the expense of me and or my son's lives. We can neither of us swim worth a hoot but with the life vests we made it back ok. I nievely thought that if the rating says 2 people and weight not exceeding 370 lbs. that 400 would'nt hurt. Theres no way that thing was going to carry 370 lbs. without major probs. I now know it's not a water couch but rather a sportier machine and slow speed stability is not it's forte. Thanks for your responce.
