I have a js440 my mate decied he didn;t want to restore. the motor is in bits and needs to be rebuilt

i have been looking on the internet for gaskits for it but i need the year model and i can't find anything that will help my find it

So is there anyway of finding out the year model from the engine number and hin or are all the gaskits the same

just look at the vin# on the back of the jetski. the first three letters will probably be kaw (kawasaki) you already said it was a js440 and the last two numbers should be the year. That should cover make, model, and year.

you can find all kind of engine gasket kits on ebay. (that's where I got mine)..

There is an endless supply of parts available for those old JSs. Should be just a quick search on eBay and you'll be on your way!
