ok so this has happened to me 2 times now.. i have a 1990 550sx with the waterbox taken out and that is the only mod done to it..... i ride it in the ocean.. it idles and runs fine in the harbor, but when i start riding it in the ocean it bogs, shuts off, and wont start.... i tow it in and get it home.. it starts after at least a minute of cranking over and a whole lot of starter fluid..

any help would be great,

I would put the water box back in, it is a baffle that not only keeps water from entering the exhaust from the outside it also gives necessary back pressure. 2 strokes need back pressure to run right.

I would also rebuild the carb and give it a good cleaning.

Stay away from starter fluid also. Thats a great way to seize your motor

Using a squirt bottle with pre mix is the way to go.
