Hi guys,

This is my first posting so bear with me if i come across a bit amateur. I have a JS440 i picked up at the beginning of the year. It has a priming kit on it which i use to get it to fire up however it stops running shortly afterwards (im assuming it is just burning off the fuel in the carb and then cutting out) the plugs are new, there is fresh fuel and oil in the tank and i have swapped the carb over with another one on my other (working) 440. Im now at a lost as to why it will not stay running.

Any ideas guys?

You may want to post your question on PWCToday.com or X-H2O.com. There are a lot of stand up riders there, and one guy named waterhawk who seems to be the 440 guru.

u need to rebuild the carb
pull it out and get a rebuild kit

Hi,

Im assuming the pump on the carb is ok as i swapped it with a completely different carb and there was no difference.

Have not had time to test all the pipes yet for bloackages.

First thing to do is put your hand over the top of the carb when starting. Make a seal so it will not suck any air, just fuel. Keep your finger on the start button, and hold you hand over the carb untill you feel it get wet. When you pull your hand away with the starter still going you should have it fight right up.

Now if that doesn't make it go, lets go over all the fuel lines. Are they hooked up the way they should be? Do you have a manual that you can look at to make sure they are hooked up correct? If don't have a book, and are unsure if they are hooked up correctly, please snap a picture and post it up.

Check the fuel line itself. Is it old? cracked? not fitting tight?

Where does that primer tap into? the in or return? Make sure that it is in the return. Because you need all the flow you can get on the line in.

Check valve, make sure that you can blow into the tank, but you can not suck out though the check valve....





Check that stuff and get back to us...

I can get my 440 to start with my hand over the carb but onlt if i do that & it will not stay running, no what? I see gas in the lines so i think its pumping fuel
