Question Kawasaki TS 650 HELLLLLP!

Hoping someone out there can help me.

I have a 1990 TS 650. It will not start anymore.
One small "click" is all it will do. The battery cables get REALLY hot. My buddy thought it was the starter solenoid, so we replaced that, but no change. A different battery did the same. Any ideas? All we can come up with is the starter is bad, but the cables getting so hot is confusing.

any help GREATLY appreciated!

My old TS was doing the same thing except it would start when cold. Definately the starter, probably got immersed with water. My muffler had a pinhole and leaked water. I got a starter from a place called MCR online for 89.99. A couple of hours to put it in.
