Default 89 wr500 problem need some help

i picked up a pair of wave-runners this winter for 400 bucks one was a 91 and runs perfect no problems at all and today i started messing with the 89 and put a battery in it hit the button and it fired right up but it wont rev at all any help would be appreciated the butterfly is opening and the accelerator cable is in tact and functional any ideas?

Sound like you might want to clean out the carb. You can take them apart pretty easy. Also, check to see if your fuel filter might be clogged? Will the problem also occur if you switch over to the Res. fuel line?

Does it have a rev limiter? I've heard that the rev limiter on those can poop out and not allow the engine to rev much past idle. My dad had that problem a couple years ago on one of his old WR500s.

I think its just a wire that goes into the head that senses cylinder head temp. If the head gets too hot, it cuts the revs.
