HiYa,

Our '88 X2 has sure been good to us over the years. We've been good to it too, just use it a few times a yr, have been for 10 yrs (its a treat when we get around to it).

Has had NO MAINTENANCE in 10 years other then battery repl (twice). For the first cold start, ALWAYS have used starter fluid to save starter & battery.

Well, now the starter fluid's not doing it, taking way too long to start. Turns over fast, spark looks good too. Once it starts it runs quite well and restarts pretty well. Gotta think its time for Carb maint.

I'm handy, my thoughts are to pull the carb and ship it off somewhere for rebld. Carb removal and repl is not TOO complex? Any Suggestions? I'll take digital pics first, thats saves my arse before

I'm in Wa. state, maybe someone or shop in 'round here?

Most likely time for a carb cleaning & possible rebuild! Usually even with bad carb you can get engine to pop with starting fluid. Is battery fully charged?If I were you while I was in there I would install a primer kit & quit using starting fluid my primer kit solved a lot of my hard start issues

Try taking the plugs out and pour some gas into the cylinders to fire it. I would do a compression test on the engine before going further. Should never use starting fluid since it washes away the oil in the crankcase.
