Default 2001 XLT1200 engine replacment

New poster looking for a bit of advice. I have a 2001 XLT1200 which just blew the #2 cylinder and threw metal through the rest of the engine. (Shocker... I know...) So since I am looking at installing a new engine I was actually wondering if anyone knew of another engine which could fit in this ski which would provide greater reliability. I do know a few things which I am going to change if I install the same engine again such as longer oil lines, which is what caused this issue, but if I can put something else in there it would be great.

Thanks for the help!

Other engines will probably fit the engine mounts, because Yamaha makes them universal for many of their 2 stroke skis. The problem will be the exhaust system, and matching the drive shaft to the pump. In some cases a different engine might require an entirely different pump. I've seen several posts on other forums where guys have put 4 stroke engines into the 1300 hulls, and I suspect that might be possible on the XL1200, but you are talking about having to move all the electrics, etc., and the cost would be more than a good used ski.

Bottom line is that its possible, but usually not practical or worth the expense.
