Default How to anti-freeze 2010 Yamaha VX Deluxe

Hi all,

First post, so hear goes. I live in cold northern climate with sub-zero temps. Dealer recommends anti-freeze as part of winterizing. Dealer also says there is a vacuum interlock, so system needs pressurizing. How do I do this?

Thanks, and any help is much appreciated.

I recommend no antifreeze for the VX. Instead, run the engine on the trailer with the bow up and the stern down for 15 seconds, blipping the throttle to force water out of the system. Wait for 1-2 hours (for engine to completely cool) and repeat until no water comes out (usually takes 3-4 times). There will not be enough water left in the system to do any damage if it freezes. I know many guys that don't even do this step and have never had a problem. Newer model Yamaha skis are self draining and there is plenty of room for water expansion in the system.

Most of the guys that put antifreeze in these skis, don't realize that unless you block off the cooling water inlet line and fabricate some type of device to pressurize the antifreeze delivery, 95% of the antifreeze goes on the ground and not into the system. They sleep better at night without realizing that their ski has no antifreeze in the cooling system at all, and never realize that their efforts had nothing to do with the ski not freezing.
