Default 03 fx140 help

Hi can anyone tell me what the differance between the 2003 fx140 and the 2003 fx140 cruiser. I just picked them up and took them out for the first time. The cruiser will walk away from the 140. I was wondering what the dif is? The fx140 will only turn 9000 rpm where the cruiser will turn 10,000+
Thanks

There's no difference other than the seats and cosmetic stuff. The engines are identical, and you should be hitting 10000 rpms at around 53 mph on both machines. Change the spark plugs on the slow machine as a first step, then report back if that doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks for the reply
Plugs were changed just before we went out. That was the only thing I did to the engine when we bought them. They were really rough looking on the outside so we painted them and put all new rubber around each of them. Looking good now just one is a little slow. It seams to hit 9000 rpm and stop. The other one, when you pin it will bounce off the rev limiter. After reading some of these posts it looks like airfilter is next. The one in it looks fine but its not the same as in the outher ski. Both are stock only the slower one has a smaller opening on the bottom of the filter. I am looking at a/m air filters now. Are any better then the next?? and is there a better place to buy??

You can get a R&D filter here: YAMAHA FX HO / FX140 They are better and cheaper than the OEM. You can actually run this engine without a filter to see if you get any improvement. If no improvement without the filter, I'd do a compression check next......should be 185-200+ with the engine warm and the throttle held wide open during the check. If the compression is good on all cylinders, you most likely have dirty fuel injectors.......I'd pull them and have them professionally cleaned.
