Default XLT 1200 no start no crank

Need some help. I have a 2003 XLT 1200. Last time out it stalled out and would not restart. I checked connections and found the positive wire on the starter was loose and had been arcing a bit. I cleaned the terminal and tightened it up but still wont start. I can hear something clicking in the electrical box. kind of a faint click. When i press the start button and it clicks, I do NOT have 12v at the starter wire. any thoughts on this? thanks

there are 4 wires on the starter solenoid... two small one is the one that activate the solenoid, and probably if you test there is 12v there.. that why you are hearing the click .... the big red wire is the positive connection to the start... if you check with a volt meter connecting one end to the battery ground and the other end to one of the two red wires, one should be 12v and the other 0... if when you push start button there and is 12v on both wires, you probably have a good solenoid and the problem could be on the started brushes. if you dont have 12 v on the other red wire that was at 0 v, you need to change the solenoid.

Thanks.....I did just what you said. I am pretty sure the sol. is bad. and when I jump the 2 big post the starter turns the motor over. I will update soon as I get a new sol. installed.
