Default 97 Wave Venture

Looks like I'm in the same situation as you. I picked up a 97 Wave Venture with 106 hrs for $350 with trailer. Pulled head and #1 piston is bad. Ski cranks over but #1 piston doesn't move, I'm assumming bad crank and I hope the case is good. I'll be following your thread..

ok i have not forgot about this rebuild everybody,i have been geting all the parts purchased.
here is where im at right now on parts,
ski #1--
as you can see i have the new crankshaft
just ordered new .50 over pistons and rings
just ordered new complete gasket kit
sparkplugs
case bolts
engine mounting brackets
along with other stuff the previous owner did not have after he tore this thing apart.
all i need for this one now is bore job and new hoses and clamps
starter
need that lower rubber mount,im hoping the engine i bought for ski 2 has this on the engine mount brackets.
when you buy a ski somebody else toreapart plan on spending alot more money buying the parts they lost.i new this when i purchased this ski.if he would have left it alone i would have probly save 300.00 in parts it would not have been missing but no big deal.

ski #2
just ordered a engine for this ski,it has 120 psi all 3 holes and is ready to go,i will be putting all new gaskets and seals in this engine to.
i will check ring endgap and maybe buy new standard pistons and rings but dont know till teardown.

should be starting assembly on ski #1 in a couple weeks time
feel free to coment on this thread cant wait for spring

i have been watching for engines on ebay for a few weeks now.i purchased one last week that had the topend rebuilt with new pistons but when the owner went to pull the moter he foundout it was a 1200 instead of the 1100.
so he issued me a refund on the purchase right away, that was ok with me im not mad at him in the least everybody makes mistakes even me.
but if anybody knows ebay i had to wait an additional 3-5 days for paypal to refund my money.i found another engine on ebay and just purchased it yesterday the guy said it had 120 psi in all cylinders so i will check it out when it gets here hoppfully next week.
my cylinder is broke on this ski and the crank so i looked for cylinders and the only one on their are 250.00 and the other crankshaft from sbt cost me 475.00 so i decided to just pay 900.00 for another engine and rebuild the topend if needed.

i went ahead and put the used engine in the ski that was missing parts.i will record a video of the other one that needs the engine assembled from ground up.
i put it on the lake yesterday for a test run and it bogedout like it was not getting gas.
when i gave it full throttle it would bog and try to die,if i let off throttle at the bog it would go back to idle and idel fine.
i looked at the filter and there was hardly no gas in the filter so i think i have a fuel problem.at idel the engine shakes a lot.it cant have a miss because the ski had alot of power i got passed the bog acouple of times and it really tookoff fast and smoth.
i looked at my manual and could not find any info on this question-i took it to the lake and after putting the blockoff kit in it i forgot to fill the 2-stroke oil box.so the ski was flashing that it was out of oil could this be a problem with the bog, does this ski have a safe mode on the oil injection my manual is junk just doesent have enough information.

also the reverse lever is sticking, took me forever to get it from forward to reverse it needs the linkage adjusted i think.

no leaks what so ever on the ski,and it fires right up with no problems.

anybody got any suggestions thanks from killer454

If you haven't found your problem or need any parts, I have experience with the problem you have, It can be several different things or a combination of several all are and easy fix and mainly just labor other than the new rubber fuel lines, if your still have the old gray lines, they break down inside clogging the whole fuel system. Plus I have about 150 parts jetski's. If you or anyone have questions I'm retired and all ways full of advice. Hit me up at (wabbit1211@yahoo.com) Not an expert but have pretty good experience with all brands. And tons of good used parts.
