Default Just bought 2006 waverunner fx ho have questions

I read up on how to chg the oil but just got confused after reading a post and he said to not use auto oil but motorcycle oil, I understand the difference but why motorcycle oil there is no wet clutch, was he wrong. I was about to buy mobil synthetic 10 w 30 car oil. I am not near a yamaha dealer. What part # oil filter does it use, is there a fram or purolator #. Are there any lube points to grease? I need to pressure grease my 2 trim cables, trim is frozen, don't think it is the rear teleflex till I isolate them. Any tips on this particular ski for a very mechanically inclined person would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to use synthetic oil, I'd recommend 10W-40. There have been several reports of more oil usage on this model ski with 10W-30 synthetic for unknown reasons. The best oil will be one that is FC-W certified, since they have all the anticrossive additives you need with a watercraft engine. If you use a non-FC-W oil, I recommend more frequent changes, and be sure to change out the filters more frequently as well.

The FX skis have one zerk fitting that supplies grease to the intermediate housing. It is located on the starboard side of the ski, near the electric box. It may have a little rubber cap on it. Take the rubber hose loose first and see if there is any grease in it. Many dealers don't even know about it, so even on an older ski you may find it has never been greased. If the hose is dry, reattach it, and put 33 pumps of grease from a standard full sized grease gun in. If it has grease put in 7 pumps every year. Go slow when you pump so you don't damage the seals.

There was a cooling hose recall on the 06-08 FXHO skis. In the US you can run it by any dealer and they can tell you if it's been done. If not, it's a free upgrade. Important to do to avoid a hose coming off and potentially sinking the ski. There are no other known issues. It's a very reliable ride.

Default Thanks for the help

Yes I will wait to find the FC-w oil and do it right. I have a blaster so I am familiar with the zerk for the bearing and to pump slowly so as not blow out the seal. Thanks for the tip on the recall, dealer says it has not been c/w.
