Default 2008 VX Cruiser Surging

Hi all, recently bought a second hand vx cruiser with less than 50Hrs. On testing the machine it ran great, however when I got it home and up to the lake for the first time it was sluggish and would not run past about 30MPH?
It felt like it was in learner mode. I do not have the security remote. I continued to run and after about 2-3 minutes the motor picked up (suddenly)and ran to full speed approx 50MPH. The ski continued to run fine till I slowed when once again it faultered for a short while before kicking to full speed again. I will change the plugs tomorrow but I have read plenty of others who appear to of had the same issue but with little feed back. The intake grill and jet and shaft are clean. Motor is spotless and covered in lanoline spray. Air filter appears to be clean and all connections tight? Feels as if it is jumping between learner and pro? Is ther a way of bypassing the learner mode by hard wire? Please help.

First Step: Change the plugs........that fixes 90% of performance problems on this ski.

Second Step: Fill it up with fresh gas if you haven't already done so, and add some fuel injector cleaner (Yamaha Ring Free Plus is best, Techron, or Seafoam are other options). The injectors on these skis will gum up if the ski sits without being stored properly.

There is no way to hard wire the ski into or out of learner mode. That module is part of the security system. You will need to take the ski to a dealer and have them reprogram the system to a new remote (it takes a special electronic tool). The remotes are not cheap if you get them through a dealer (seems like around $150). You can sometimes find them on EBay for less $$, then have the dealer reprogram the ski to accept that remote. Take your title with you, because the dealers are supposed to verify ownership before they do the reprogram.

Default Plug change did it.

Hi all, well I did change the plugs, emptied a bottle of injector cleaner into her and filled her with 98 octane. The VX runs really well now, even after 3 tanks of fuel.
My thanks to those who responded.
Cheers

It's always nice when it turns out to be an easy and cheap fix!
