Default Need the forum's help on this used 2002 XL!!!!! FLORIDA

Hey. New to skis in general, but I've been studying them on multiple forums the past week and learned tons about them.
But a second opinion is always helpful.

So here is the deal.

There is this 2002 Yamaha waverunner up for sale on craigslist.
yamaha xl 1200

Its a 2002 XL800, with a GP1200 engine swapped into it. The swap was done 6 months ago, and the engine has 40 hours on it. Says a race shop did the install, not himself.
He claims it does 60-70 mph.

He said everything from the GP was swapped onto his, like the cluster and guages. Would that even fit correctly on the XL800?

He says nothing is broken and I can test ride it no problem.

He is asking 2500 with double trailer and box..

2000 w/o trailer.

So what should I look for? is 2000 for just the ski decent?

By the way, everything is stock. He did mention the mechanic swapped the fuel line and put a clamp on the far cylinders oil hose.

I have a compression guage, and I have pretty good mechanical skills. Ive worked on my car a lot, and Im just starting my marine tech classes in the spring.

Thanks.

If you are close to were the ski is, go take a look! Maybe take it for a ride, check for leaks, and function of everything.

Anything I should look out for?

Where should I check for leaks? When I take it for a ride, there should be no water what so ever in the hull right?

He said the carbs were rebuilt along with the motor install.

The hull should be dry, check for fluids on the inside of the hull. Make sure it doesn't have signs of a wreck or obvious neglect.

How about the power valves? How can I check those for damage/wear, and to see if they even work..

Should that paint job lower the price? Not a fan of the orange..

Kelley blue book has the yamaha 2002 xl 800/1200 at ~$2000 trade in value.

I know these 2 strokes need tons of maintenence, so I want to have a little wiggle room in the price in case anything happens.

Would the seller be able to throw in the trailer? That would be a good deal.

And what about the cat converter? How can I tell if that is bad? Or is still even on it?

I heard a d-plate is a pain to install.

Trialer and ski is $2500. W/o trailer $2000.

Im sure he will go lower than what he is asking too.

Chances are the pump needs a rebuild and the d-plate needs to be put in.

Thats an easy 500 in parts right?? Already..
