Default WTB clear plastic lense covering gage cluster 06 fx ho

Don't do this- apply rain-x on plastic lens that covers the instrument cluster. Within seconds the lens crystalized and spider cracked. I have not removed the shroud but I am hoping the lens is not an integral piece of the cluster and can be purchased separately. If you have a cluster that is toast and can rob the lens let me know, thanks.

Unfortunately, the display is a single unit and sealed. There is no way to swap out the plastic lens that I know of, and a new display is costly ($700+).

Rain X is very bad for many types of plastic. I know for a fact it will mess up many types of tinted windows. I'd say your best bet is to look for a headlight lens restoration kit for heavy duty problems like: http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-hd-headlight-kit.html You wet sand the lens first starting with more course paper and work your way down. What you will probably have to do is start with even more course paper than what comes in the kit. I've restored some really bad lens starting with 100 or 200 grit paper wet sanding, and working down to the 3000 or 4000 before you apply the protectant. It is very labor intensive and will take a while to get all the surface defects out. It will be much easier, faster, and safer if you remove the display from the ski, then you won't damage the surrounding plastic.

Good Luck!

Default Thanks again Ernest T

Not the answer I was looking for. The cracks look like they go very deep, not just surface crazing like an old headlight but I will try to polish it out in steps. Thanks again
