Default Need help deciding which Yamaha to buy

We are in the market to buy a new PWC and need recos on which Yamaha to buy. The PWC will be used mainly to jump waves. I do not want to spend more than $10,000. We need a PWC that is very reliable. We currently have a SeaDoo and it has been nothing but trouble. I am hoping I can get a good deal on last year's model.

We live in Cincinnati, OH and boat mainly at Lake Cumberland, KY. I would appreciate if anyone can give refer me to a dealer near either of these places that offers good deals on Yamaha and that offer great service and knows how to fix the PWC if it does break. I have yet to find a SeaDoo mechanic that can find the root cause of our "real" issue with our SeaDoo.

Thanks.
Sandy

Actually wave jumping is one category that newer 4 stroke skis are not great for. They are simply too heavy at or over 1000 pounds with fuel. If you do nothing but jump waves, don't be surprised if you break your motor mounts fairly quickly or do other damage to the ski on the heavier 4 strokes, and that is true on SeaDoo or Yamaha.

If jumping wake/waves is your primary goal, I'd look at a used 2 stroke ski. The Yamaha GP 800, 1200, and 1300 would be high on the list, and will save you lots of $$$. The 2 stroke skis are considerably lighter and can take the pounding better, but the life span of the 2 stroke engine will be shorter.

If you are talking about occasional wake/wave jumping and want an aggressive riding 4 stroke, I'd recommend the new Yamaha VXR/VXS. It has a very sporty ride, and gets airborne easily compared to other 4 strokes. It is also in your price range, runs regular fuel, and is the fastest normally aspirated ski on the market.

If you want to jump wake look at a 1998/1999 Yamaha GP1200. You can get one with a blown motor for $500 put $1500 in for a new motor and have a practically new machine with $8k still left over.
