Default Help with 1999 XL1200 limited, and 1998 wave venture 700!!

Hey guys. Looking to buy a pair of skis. One is a 1999 xl1200, and the other is a 1998 wave venture.

The wave venture is all original, engine has never been rebuilt.

The XL1200 has been through one rebuild, because of grass getting stuck in the intake grate and heating the engine up. It happened on a lake, both skis have only been in fresh water.
The XL has a total of 67 hours. Not sure how much on the rebuild.
He said all OEM parts were used through yamaha.

Both carbs were cleaned a couple of months ago.. Thats what he says at least.

He is going to test run them and get back to me with what RPM and MPH they are running.

QUESTIONS

What MPH and RPM should they be putting out?

What compression should they be at?

I NEED INFO ON POWER VALVES!! Where are they located? This xl1200 does not have the wave eater clips.. YET.

Does the wave venture have power valves? Im pretty sure the xl does since its a 99 and thats when they first started making them.

CAT CONVERTER! How can I check if this has gone bad? What are the symptoms?

PUMP!!! How can I check the impeller? Wear ring? Would that grass getting clogged in the grate effect the pump??

Anything else you guys can add on would be great!

Im checking these out tomorrow sometime.

Thanks!

XL1200: 56-57 mph at 7080 rpm
Venture: 50-52 mph at ??? maybe around 6200 rpm based on the XL700 specs. I'm guessing on this one

What compression should they be at?
XL1200: 120 psi
Venture 700: Has fairly high compression for a 2 cyl. around 150-155 psi

You can install them: Check this out: Shop SBT - power valve

XL1200: yes has the PVs
Venture: No

Ski usually will run like crap. You have to take the exhaust apart. The Cat/Con will usually be in pieces if it is bad. Check this out: [http://www.rivaracing.com/instructions/ry1819.pdf

Look for chips, dings, and space between the impeller and housing. On most skis you should have less than 0.4 mm space with a feeler gauge.

Anything else you guys can add on would be great!
DO A TEST RIDE

Im checking these out tomorrow sometime.

Thanks!
Good Luck!
