I'm pretty sure that the new LX (2012) shares the same hull as the 300. If so, it will definitely give you a more comfortable ride in rough water than the VXR. That Kaw hull has one of the deepest "V" shapes on the market, and its as good as it gets in cutting through chop. The VXR will be faster, by at least 5 mph maybe more, but it will be significantly more bouncy in chop. The VXR will be more reliable, and I suspect give you significantly better fuel economy.
My recommendation for a cruiser would be a Yamaha FXHO. You get a big stable ski, with a normally aspirated engine capable of 65 mph, that will plow through rough water with no problem. It will also be more reliable than any Kaw model. The VXR is more of a sporty, go fast, type of ski......not a cruiser.
