Default Yamaha venture 1100 fuel filter replacement

Hey guys first post here and back to skis after 15 years of not having one. I went out on tuesday and picked up a nice 96 wave venture 1100 triple and going to do some maintenance on it. When it is really cold out like near 45* it has a little trouble starting but it will start so I am thinking a carb clean but the owner said they were just rebuilt 1.5yrs ago. So they should be good to go. The ski has been sitting for just a tad over a year so who knows.

I am going to be replacing the spark plugs on it and draining the gas from it and putting in fresh. I am woundering if I found a fuel filter that would possibly fit could I just use that instead of the yamaha one? Just curious because the dealer near me would have to order a yamaha one and wouldn't be here until next week and I will be taking it out this saturday to make sure all goes well.

Anyways I picked this up for $650 with 103.7 hrs on it and it runs great so far. The motor is really clean and the outside needs some buffing and the plastic around the handle bars needs to be replaced. I also just went out and picked up a trail-right single trailer with box and gas rack so now the whole setup is complete.

I am really glad I found this forum so now I can learn what's all new from the years I have missed!

Any and all advice is great to read! I also try to search before asking questions. Learned from other forums to do it first!

i start both of my skis in the water sitting on them kaasaki, polaris 1200

2 strokes can take some time to start if they been sitting for a few days

as far as the fuel filter i would say a good inline filter from a parts place would be fine to use.

i have picked up 2 venture 1100s and am rebuilding them now im putting oil blockoffs on both skis.you may want to do the same.

all the info i have given is what i would do,in other words im not going to order an inline filter from yamaha.

Wow thanks for that video. That was really informative.

I will go today and get new spark plugs for it and a fuel filter. I don't think the filter has been changed in a long time so I might as well do it before I head out this weekend. It is going to be cooler weather out here in SoCal but I want to take it out before I head out for my vacation starting the 12th.

When I tried to start it yesterday it was taking a bit for it to even try to start. My last ski when I was about 15 I sometimes had to use starting fluid to help it start. I am not sure if that is a good or bad idea though.

I will take pictures of it when I can today but it is dirty from sitting out. I will be storing it in a garage for now on so she won't fade.

Also is there a way to make the throttle a thumb throttle instead of a 2 finger one? I was thinking of just flipping it around but I don't want to mess anything up

buy the way i do not recommend starting your jet ski up out of the water like this video.the thing that would worry me is its not down far enough in the water to allow water to enter the cooling pipe down at the jetdrive or pump.

YOU COULD BE OVERHEATING YOUR MOTER,ALWAYS START YOUR SKI IN THE WATER LIKE ME.

Would it be ok to start it with the flush kit hooked up? I was going to do that today to make sure it starts well before I head to the lake tomorrow
