Have a friend that has a GP1200 who has a hard starting ski. His method is to hold the choke wide open, pump the throttle, and continue pumping it slightly as he hits the start button. It usually works. He keeps talking about installing a primer kit, but never gets around to it.

Good Afternoon, and it is a good afternoon for me! I finally picked up the 2001 Waverunner from the mechanics this afternoon, and it runs!!! I saw it with my very own eyes puffing away in the tank! This is the first time since July 2011 that I have had two skis running at the same time. The electrical connection on the 2002 was fixed also. The starter button had a bad connector that would not connect consistently even after cleaning. The mechanic just cut out the connector and hard wired it.

With the replacement of two cylinders, etc, and the crank, and after the carbs have been rebuilt, the 2001 is as good as new. The mechanic signed a statement that in his opinion, after hearing what I had to say and looking at the condition of the engine, the damage that occured to the engine did not occur during my less than one-half hour of operation. He signed a statement that in his opinion the engine was damaged, and the ski did not "run perfect," when I bought it. That's what I needed in my lawsuit against the seller.

I will be filing the small claims case in Elyria Ohio municipal court next week. It will be based on breach of warranty. I will keep you posted as to how things come out.

I had hoped to put the skis in the water this afternoon, but the remnants of Isaac put a squelch on those plans. But I am sure there will be a few more good days before I have to put the skis away.

Happy boating!

Good Morning. Took the Waverunners to the local lake yesterday. Son wanted to try out the new flat tube purchased last week. Put the 2002 in the water and tried my mechanic's suggestion on starting = (1) push start button momentarily, (2) pump the trottle 10 times, (3) pull choke and hit start again. The Waverunner tried to start right up, which was unusual as it has been very difficult to start when cold. I tried the process again, only using 5 "throttle pumps" the second time, and the ski stated right up. So much better than pulling the plugs and priming.

The machine ran well, until it sucked up some weed and clogged the impeller just as we were returning to the dock. No big problem.

Did not take the 2001 out, as it is still being broken in and could not pull tube or travel at high speeds.

I'll keep you posted, but things are looking up! Happy boating.

For those of you who have been following this thread, I mailed the Complaint against the guy I bought the 2001 XLT 1200 from to the Court last night. As mentioned, the lawsuit is based on the breach of express warranty, as the seller said the machine "runs perfect" when it did not. I am armed with statements from the guy who helped me get it started who can say it never ran properly, and the mechanic who repaired the mahcine who says the extensive damage was, in his opinion, there when I purchased the ski.

I'll keep you posted at to the progression of the case. As it is in small claims court we should have a decision in about 45 days.

Wish me luck, but I think the seller will need more luck than I. After all, I've been suing people for over 25 years and I have some idea what I am doing.

Default Court Date Postponed

Latest Update, 12 Oct:

What do you know? Defendant/2001 Waverunner Seller will not pick up certified mail from the court. Wonder why? Guilty conscience perhaps. The court will now send a copy of my complaint to him by regular mail, and if it does not come back to the court, which it won't, then we have good service and the lawsuit can proceed even without the Defendant's participation. I hope he doesn't participate as lawsuits are much easier to win when the Defendant doesn't defend himself. Due to the problems with service the trial date has been changed to 14 November so that regular mail service will have time to get to the Defendant.

I'll keep you posted as to the results.

Bump. I am going to court this Wednesday, the 14th, and just wanted to bring this thread to the top again.

Skis are on dollies in garage, awaiting spring.

I will post again on Wednesday and give you the post-trial results.

Default Victory in the Court!

As mentioned, went to Elyria Municipal Court today. Defendant, the guy who sold the bum Waverunner to me, did not appear in court. I was awarded a judgment of $3,000 + costs, which is the maximum a person can be awarded in small claim court. It's relatively easy to win when the other side does not bother to show up in court.

Now I have to file a lien against his real estate, garnish his wages, and/or have the sheriff seize his truck. It may take some time but the judgment can be satisfied.

The magistrate thought it pertinent that the last thing that I discussed with the seller was that the ski was guaranteed to run correctly.

I'll keep you posted as to my collection efforts.

As a wise man once said, "don't take the law into your own hands, take them to court." I concur.

Congratulations! I have never taken anyone to small claims court and seeing how easy it was for you to win it seems like I should have when I bought this truck. I bought it "as-is" however he said it wasn't leaking any coolant or had any issues that he was aware of. Took it home and found out the coolant was leaking and burning through the manifold as well as someone REMOVED the check engine light. Spent nearly $6,000 on the engine to have everything up to snuff (After spending $2500 on the truck, mind you it was a '96 GMC Yukon not even that nice of a vehicle just needed something to tow stuff with). At that point I should have contacted small claims court as I definitely bought it "as-is" but he completed misrepresented the condition of the vehicle.
