Default waveraider problems again

i have a 1996 waveraider 700 that has been giving me a ton of trouble. i recently had to have the ignition coil replaced due to a short. i took it out to the lake the other day and primed it and started it, sqeezed the gas and it would go a few feet and die on me. it did this a bunch of times. it had very irregular engine noise during those few seconds before dying. also it did not want to idle in the water or out. im very confused. please help! thank you!

Good question! Start with a compression test then go through and clean the carbs.

they were cleaned a few months ago i do believe. however i think old gas was run through them so they could have been clogged. and a compression check was run not 2 weeks ago. any other suggestions? oh and i dont have a compression tester so is there a way to manually check? thanks a ton for the feedback!

You can rent specialty tools (compression tester in this case) at local parts store (advanced, auto zone, o'rally, you get the point) put down deposit (usually price of tool) return it, get your money back.
