Default Yamaha WB 700 1995 Pump problems

I am trying to fit the impeller and drive shaft back into the jet ski but it gets stuck with about an inch to go... I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or just need to push harder. thanks for the help

hey cmc,
as far as lining up the drive shaft, if you look the end is splined, that meets up with the intermediate shaft which has the female splines. sometimes you need to turn the driveshaft by hand to get them to line up. also make sure there is a little grease on the end to keep it lubricated.

unless someone visibly welded the prop to the shaft, its not permanent.
if its stock you will need a driveshaft tool, a large wrench, bench vise, and a torch.
put the driveshaft tool in the vise, and slide the splined end of the shaft into it, heat the prop with the torch and be careful not to put the torch directly on the back of the prop area where the driveshaft goes through the stator section of the pump, so you dont damage the seals.
you will need to heat it for a few minutes, get it good and hot. then hopefully you have a big enough wrench to apply alot of torque to.
they are a real pia to get off if you dont have the proper tools.
i have a vise mounted on the florr of the shop just for that purpose so we can use our legs to get the prop loose.
keep in mind when the prop is turning its tightening itself on the driveshaft.

as far as flushing the ski with fresh water, you should have a flush kit that came factory on that ski. just be sure the motor is running before you turn the water on, and shut the water off before turning the motor off. otherwise you can fill the motor up with water.

thanks for the help. we got the drive shaft back on and took it for a spin and it rode perfect! The next day I let my buddy put it in the water and he forgot to put the drain plugs in and it sank halfway. luckily we were able to get it back to the ramp in time but salt water had already gotten into the carburetor... we took out the spark plugs and pumped most of the water out by turning it over then sprayed some WD40 directly through the spark plug holes and managed to get it to start again. we only ran it for a minute because we don't have the proper water cooling plug in and the jet ski was already out of the water. what else do you think we need to do in order to keep it running? other online sources say we need to flush it out with fresh water but we already got it running so do we still need to put fresh water in the engine? Also it wont idol because the air valve in the carb is completely shut when we arent giving it gas. I know this is a simple cable adjustment but I dont know exactly how to adjust this or ho much air should be alowed through when it is idoling.
THanks for the help!

well, thats a bummer about water in the ski, right after you got it going.
the good thing is you got most of the water out and got it running. the down side is that there is still water in the bottom of the crankcase and it really needs to be put back on the water and ran for a good 20 mins at least to dissapate the water in the crankcase. the longer it sits in there the more likely rust will start forming up on the bearing surfaces.

when adjusting the idle, use the adjustment on the one carb, not the cable to make that adjustment. thats just asking for trouble.
if there is to much tension on the cable, when you turn the handlebars, it will cause the motor to rev up without even touching the throttle. this can be very dangerous.
you always want to have a little slack in the cable so it doesnt do that. there is an idle adjustment screw on the one carb, right next to where the cable goes on. turn the adjuster in small increments to get what you want for an idle. remember the idle will be a little lower in the water also.

you can run the ski out of the water for a good 30 seconds without hurting anything, just dont keep doing it over and over or it will get hot.

best of luck with it.

thanks for the advice. When we run it out of the water black/dark grey thick liquid is coming out the exhaust. We think that this is some sort of gear lube or grease that is being washed out with the water. Is there anything we need to re grease before we take it back out in the water? Also what oil to fuel mixture should we use? we have been using 50 to 1 but that appears to be too much.
thanks

Default new steering problem

we ran it regardless of the mysterious liquid and it ran fine, until the shaft that connects the nozzle to the handlebars via cable snapped. It broke in view about 6 inches from the nozzle but above the water seal. I believe that this is why our jetski was taking in water slowly. If anyone knows were I can buy this part or if i can just try to fix it somehow please let me know.
