HELP, 99gp760, slow cranking speed???
my gp760 when trying to crank it, it now turns over slowly. At least 1/2 or less of what it normall turned over. I can turn the motor by hand, so I feel that it is not seizing up. I have tried two batteries, starters, cable connections, etc.
Is there something that could be causing it to inhale 'to much' air when cranking, as it kinda reminds me of an engine that has to much compression.
I also pulled the plug wires to see if it was a timing issue, but no change in cranking speed.
(it has 250 hours on it) thank you all for any suggestions..

hey raw,
welcome to the forum!
it certainly sounds like a starting circuit issue. but it could be something else for sure. first check the pump area for anything that may be stuck in the driveline, of maybe the wear ring is starting to swell. pull the spark plugs out and try turning it over that way too.
double check the voltage and amp draw on the battery. take it to an auto parts store if you dont have a good battery tester. just because the battery shows 12volts, dosent mean when put under a load it will hold up.
if your careful, you can by pass the whole starting system and go directly from the battery to the starter with jumper cables. just need to be very careful the jumper cable doesnt short out to any ground. also you can hook a jumper cable on the negative side of the battery to a good ground on the motor and try that. that will rule out and bad cables or connections.
hope that helps. let feel free to pm me if you need further help or replacement parts.

thanks for the help,
I checked and there is nothing hung in the pump, etc. I also checked the wear ring.
I pulled the plugs. engine turns over, but with the plugs out it is hard to tell if it is normal cranking speed. but definetly turns quicker than it does with the plugs in.
I am going to try the jumper cable, direct to start step next.
thanks again...
