Default *HELP* XLT1200 PV will not stay running

Just bought my 2003 PV XLT1200 with D-plat & chip compression from the front #1-130 #2-140 #3-130, PV are working.

First thing i had to do was replace a fuse to get it to crank then i rebuilt the carbs cause there was milky oil/water substance in the cylinders & fouling out the spark plug's witch meant gummed up carbs... thank god i didn't buy something with a blown head gasket or worse.

I got the water and milky oil flushed out, put new plug's in and there clean.

My problem now is: It will only START & STAY running when plug's are pulled, fuel is poured into the cylinder's, plug's are replaced, START and have to keep the throttle mashed wide open (%100), let off throttle and it dies

Do you have to hold it full throttle or is it just idling low? I would first try to adjust the idle control knob, turn it up a bit, maybe its turned down too low.

Checking/changing the fuel filter wouldn't hurt either. I would start with the simple stuff.

I've tried everything. So far i have pulled the carburetors 3x's or more. the first time i used everything that came with the stock rebuild kit and it wouldn't start and had spark, the second time we cut the spring down had a very low "pop off" but would idle and kinda run only when feathering the choke, the third time replaced the cut spring with the stock spring and right back to not idling.

Sounds like a fuel flow problem. I'd look for a cracked or loose pulse line to the carbs. Something either blocking fuel flow, or preventing the carbs from pulling fuel like they should. Could be a leak somewhere in the carb system.

You may want to recheck your compression. Poor compression will typically cause the same symptoms. You may also want to do a leak down test to be sure you don't have a leak somewhere else in the system.

Good Luck!

srry I left out a few steps i performed..

I pressurized from the fuel tank back down to the carburetors and checked out good also checked the pickup was clear as well.

I do agree that something isn't isn't doing its job. I can see the fuel make its way through fuel filter and into the crabs but something is stopping the fuel from pumping its way into the cylinders barrel.

Also my compression was 150(p.s.i) all the way across

Is it possible that on the fuel pump side of one of the carbs, maybe you didnt install the new washers and diaphragm correctly... I have done it before. If two of the carbs are pumping properly, you would still get fuel, just not enough to keep it running. With the carbs back off, you could try blowing into each of the three pulse lines and see if one seems to act different. And like the guy above said, check those green pulse lines carefully at the connections, they definitely tend to be prone to cracking. Try also switching the fuel to reserve, those petcocks also can fail. If it runs good on reserve but not on .. there's your problem. Actually try that first. Keep us updated.
