Default Installing 06 FX HO Engine in 05 FX Ho Hull

New Member here.

I have an 05 FX HO with a blown engine. I have purchased a wrecked 06 FX HO to use the engine out of.

If I swap all the senors and the intake, will the 05 ECU correctly control the 06 engine?

I guess I could swap out the ECU and wiring harness, but I would like to keep the 05 stock (with the exception of the engine) if I can.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Although all the pre-2009 FX HOs are essentially the same machine, Yamaha did make subtle changes (especially with the 08). I suspect that in your case the 06 engine would work just fine with the 05 electronics. You might want to include the 06 wiring harness in the move then if you had to you could swap the ECU and display.

Thanks for the reply Ernest T. I have done some research on HLSM.com looking at their parts lists and exploded views for each year of ski. I tracked down all (I think) of the sensors on the engines and the only part numbers that didn't match was was for the ECU. I think that I can swap the engine and ECU from the 06 into the 05 and be good to go.

Do these machines utilize a crank position sensor? I couldn't find one listed for either motor.

Thanks for your time.

They do have a cam position sensor. If you need a service manual, PM me your email.

Hi, I have 2004 FX HO Cruiser with blown engine and purchased an engine block from 2006 FX HO. I was told that as long as I keep the 2004 stator together with the 2004 ECU it should work. Did you use original stator from 2005 with ECU from 2006?

Thank you.

Folush,

I installed the entire engine assembly (it turns out that it was a 2007 not a 2006). I swapped a couple of temperature sensors from the 2005 to the 2007 and used my original wiring harness and ECM. Everything works flawlessly. I would think (but I'm not positive) that your '06 stator would be fine with your '04 ECM. I would check with an "expert" to be sure though.

Thank you for the reply Bill,
I swapped the engine. The engine from 2006 came with "engine temperature sensor", "thermoswitch" and "oil pressure switch" so I left them on the engine.
For some reason my FX HO does not show anything on the dashboard, except for a "security" light for about 5 seconds after I connect the battery. The engine turns but does not start.
Was the dashboard working on your ski?

Folush,

Both the dashes on both skis were operational when the motor switch was made. I swapped out the sensors from the '05 engine to the '07 engine because I found that they had different parts numbers for the respective year models.
