Default no spark on 2000 xl 1200

i had my 2000 xl 1200 out this weekend and it was running fine, i slowed down to make a turn and it died. it will crank but won't start. i pulled the plugs and checked for a spark, but i'm not getting anything. i'm looking for a place to start checking. any advice would be appreciated.

still looking for some advice. is this a common problem? is there a fuse panel for this machine, where is it? is there some kinda of safety that shuts down the ignition system?

Since it happened while you were riding, I'd suspect a wiring problem 1st or a blown fuse. Check the fuses and look for loose wires. Disconnect the kill switch and see if you have spark. Trace the wires to the CDI and be sure all connections are tight and no corrosion.

Next step would be to check the output voltage from the stator. I can't remember the number off the top of my head (30-50 volts maybe), but just check to see if you are getting output when you crank it. If you get juice from the stator, and all wires and connections are good, then you most likely have a bad CDI.
