2005 Yamaha FX Cruiser front compartment is stuck closed. The cable is either broken or frozen. Any ideas on how to get it open?

The latch pin is probably stuck. I've seen a post about it happening to someone else, but I couldn't find it. I think you have to come at it from the back side by removing the cover around the display area then you can get to the latch pin.
